There are so many professionals in a wide variety of industries on the front lines of fighting this pandemic. From doctors, nurses, and other healthcare practitioners to law enforcement, first responders, military members, grocers and even bankers, many of our friends, family members, and neighbors deserve thanks and gratitude.
One of the things we are learning now is how critical commercial transportation is – not just in our economy but as a true necessity in our society. According to the American Trucking Association, there are 3.5 million professional truck drivers in the U.S.
These drivers are a vital part of our supply chain every day. Simply put, they are saving lives by getting medical equipment and supplies, food and water, and other critical items to their necessary destinations. In this crisis, they are doing so despite supply chain challenges.
In an evolving environment, one changing by the hour, these companies and their drivers need to operate with even more fluidity and versatility than they would during times with much less supply chain stress. Despite challenges, our food supply, for example, should be able to match needs, despite temporary shortages.
As our country is dealing with this virus at the national, state, and local levels, regulations are being temporarily relaxed to ensure that goods and services deemed essential will get to their destination quickly.
Pre-coronavirus, perhaps many Americans took truckers for granted. In times of crisis, we learn what really matters. Thank you to our truck drivers. Drive safe on the roads because wherever you are going, we need you to get there safely and on time.
