How COVID-19 is affecting Courts in Michigan

Scales of Justice.

We hope all of you are staying healthy as together we fight the growing COVID-19 virus. While life is certainly taking a different turn, many parts of life are going on. That’s true at Bashore Green where cases are still be heard and ruled on – even remotely.

As of today, there has been no blanket guideline from the Michigan Supreme Court on the closure of specific courtrooms, and that decision has been left to the individual judges. This could change in the coming days given Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s executive order on March 23 for residents to stay home except for essential reasons.

Cases are Still Being Heard and Ruled on.

However, our team is practicing the state-mandated social distancing practices in our office as a way to protect our employees. So on any given day, we have a handful of team members working in the office and the rest for home. And we’re all working! So if you have pending litigation or a case in process, we are following it through the system. We’ll keep you updated on the process.

If court guidelines do change, we’ll let you know on our website. For us it is business as usual – only now it’s most often from the comforts of our own homes. Contact us with needs you may have whether it’s from a recent auto accident, personal injury, or if you have questions about an unpaid death benefit.
